Naranja Elementary is home to an unusually effective PARENT OUTREACH PROGRAM. The program provides a stimulating environment that allow teachers and parents to work together in order to best determine the needs of the children served by the program. Here, at any time, parents can request a packet of material customized for the specific needs of their child. This can be done daily or even weekly. This program utilizes a room in the school to meet the needs of the parents served by the program. A popular proverb states "It takes a village to raise an educate a child." Naranja is working to enhance our already established Naranja Elementary "Village" sense of pride, collaboration and commitment.
Parent involvement is an essential element in effective education. Studies show that two factors are necessary to improve learning: a sound instructional program, and consistent involvement of parents and other influential adults. It is, therefore the policy of the Miami-Dade County Public School to actively bring together families, school and the community in the education of children. In the board rule, the term "parent" refers to any adult-mother, father, older sibling, aunt, uncle, grandparents, guardian, mentor-who plays a significant role n the care of a student or students enrolled in the Miami Dade County Public School. Although parental involvement is the specific focus of this policy, it is recognized that all those concerned with the education of students must work together cooperatively to meet the needs of students. Schools have the responsibility to involve parents, and parents have the responsibility to become involved in the school.
